Gujarat Panchayat Election Results 2021 Live Update: The BJP registered a thumping victory in the local body polls in Gujarat yesterday by winning clear majority in all 31 district panchayats as well as in 196 out of 231 taluka panchayats and 74 out of 81 municipalities. The Congress, the main opposition party in the state, won a clear majority in only one municipality and 18 taluka panchayats, while AIMIM and AAP also made their presence felt. In six municipalities and 15 taluka panchayats no party has got clear majority. In the second phase where polling was held for district and taluka panchayats as well as municipalities on February 28, the BJP again left the Congress far behind by winning 6,236 out of 8,470 seats for which results were declared. The position was not yet clear on four remaining seats. The Congress could win 1,805 seats, while the new entrants Aam Aadmi Paty (AAP) and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) won 42 and 17 seats, respectively. Reacting to the partys victory, Union Home Minister and BJP leader Amit Shah dedicated the partys victory in Gujarat polls to the welfare work. This victory is a victory of the unwavering faith of the people in the BJP governments headed by Prime Minister Shri Modi, dedicated to the development and welfare of the poor, farmers and villages. Modiji-led BJP governments are constantly committed to the welfare and development of the countrys poor, farmers and disadvantaged communities, said Shah in a tweet in Gujarati. Gujarat BJP president CR Patil also thanked the people of the Gujarat for the partys victory. However, the results did not favour the Congress and it has lost even in the panchayats where it was in the power. A total of 58.82 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the municipalities, 65.80 per cent in the district panchayats and 66.60 per cent polling was in the taluka panchayats. According to the state election commission, polling was conducted for 8,235 out of 8,474 seats while 237 candidates were elected unopposed. No candidates filed nominations for two seats. The ruling BJP had given tickets to 8,161 candidates while Congress fielded 7,778 candidates.
